So, 2017 is officially over and the new year has begun. I think now would be the perfect time to reflect on the year gone by and determine some goals for the year ahead. I know, for me, 2017 was an absolute rollercoaster of a year and just seemed to fly right by. Both personally and professionally, it was an amazing twelve months!
How was work in 2017?
The greatest gift that I was given in 2017 was, without a doubt, the chance to found a business alongside a very talented, long-time friend. The journey that we embarked on at the start of 2017 was one that I will never forget. So much occurred during those 10 months, from learning what it’s really like to run a company, to working with great clients in the aim of creating amazing projects. The whole experience was a real eye-opener for me, and left me with a lot of cherished memories.
A notable moment for me during this time is of one evening, when my business partner and I were in a meeting with the CEO and COO of a brand who wanted us to develop some technology for them. I remember, after our meeting had concluded, our conversation drifted towards more personal topics. As we all chatted, I remember losing my train of thought for a minute, unbeknownst to the others, I couldn’t help but think about the position I was in and how lucky I was to be there. (I’ve talked about this particular experience, and more, in an interview, which you can find here!).
I extended my professional network heavily over the last twelve months, building relations with a range of influential people, whom I’m glad to call friends, associates, and clients — all of which contributed extensively to the amazing year I had.
What about personal life?
In 2017, I continued trying to solve the unsolvable — having a work/life balance as a young entrepreneur — to no avail might I add! Instead, I’m taking some extra time out of my calendar to spend with friends and family, making up for the insanely demanding work schedule I seem to find myself with.
In 2018, I will endeavour to stay motivated, and eliminate procrastination. If I want to fulfil my to-do list for the next 52 weeks, anything that wastes my time can’t be a part of my life — procrastination needs to go!
Goals for 2018
If 2017 was anything to go by, this year will certainly be a busy one for me, as I’m tackling some exciting, large-scale, difficult projects, alongside existing commitments.
Despite the busy schedule, there is still a lot that I hope to achieve over the coming months, namely:
- Focusing heavily on my projects.
- Eliminating procrastination.
- Relaxing sooner, rather than burning out later.
- Maintaining good relations with everyone in my social circle, and professional network.
… in addition to some personal goals that I’d like to fit in along the way!
To conclude, I can truly say without a doubt that 2017 will go down as one of the most educational years of my life. I’ve learned so much, both personally and professionally, over the last 12 months. I’m truly happy that everything that occured in 2017, both the good and the bad, happened!
The only other things that I’d like to do in this post is, firstly, to wish everyone reading a very happy new year! Secondly, to extend my thanks to everyone who has helped me, worked with me, or given me a chance this past year. I hope that these friendships, and relationships continue to blossom in 2018!
Thanks for checking out my post! I really hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to tell me about your 2017, and goals for 2018 in the comments section.
