Photo by @haarbergphoto (Orsolya Haarberg) | Svalbard. Vast expanses of emptiness. Mountains, and flats of fragmented rocks as far as the eye can see. Glacier lagoons and the endless horizon of drifting ice create a seemingly inhospitable environment… And then you come across a seabird colony, a group of walruses resting on a beach, a polar bear feeding on a seal carcass on a floating piece of ice. Life that is born out of, and maintained by the invisible richness of the seas.
Walruses are not particularly pretty animals from a distance, but on closer inspection, their face is enchanting. And they don’t mind you coming close if you give them enough time to learn that your presence is not a threat. What an experience it was to earn their trust for a few minutes! 🙂
